Have you been wanting to try the research like a pro process, but are feeling overwhelmed with all that you have to do? Maybe you have done the process once, or started the process, but got busy and didn’t finish. Diana and I have been brainstorming a new way for everyone to practice the research like a pro process in a simple, easy to follow format. We thought a daily challenge might work!
So if you want a good start to genealogy in 2019, using best practices and effective habits, we encourage you to sign up for our daily challenge. You will choose a simple objective in the identity category for someone born after 1880, and start doing one small task each day to learn each step. Our goal is to help you learn the method for taking a genealogy project from start to finish, without getting stuck because your research problem is tough. We will do each daily task along with you! And we will all start on the same day – Tuesday, January 22, and share our progress with each other on Facebook, by email, Twitter, Instagram, whatever works best for you!

1. ObjectiveThere are 7 steps in the Research Like a Pro process. You will spend two days on each step. Think of this as a mini research project. You are just doing a simple project to learn the process, not tackling that brick wall you’ve had for years! Here are the 7 steps:
2. Analysis
3. Locality Research
4. Research Planning
5. Source Citations
6. Research Log
7. Report Writing
When you’re done with the challenge you will have completed a mini report! It might just be a paragraph summarizing the 3 searches you did, and that’s fine. The purpose is to practice each of the steps and finish the whole process. All you need is at least 15 minutes a day.
