Should I hire a professional genealogist?

Hiring a professional genealogist can save you time, energy, and money! Traveling to repositories and paying for subscriptions to databases can quickly add up. Without a clear focus on your research challenges, you may be spinning your wheels, wasting countless hours without making progress.  At Family Locket Genealogists, we review your brick wall challenges, find hidden clues in the records, and perform new research. Our expertise and knowledge of the records allow us to progress on your project and point you in new directions for research. What is the difference between the Research Like a Pro study group and eCourse?

The Research Like a Pro study group has the same lessons as the Research Like a Pro eCourse, but they are taught live in weekly scheduled group sessions with the other participants via Zoom. The study group also has deadlines for completing assignments and a feedback schedule for reading each others’ assignments and giving feedback. Participants in the study group work closely together and provide encouragement and motivation to complete assignments. Peer group leaders give personalized feedback on each assignment for study group members. The study group is held twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. The spring group focuses on incorporating DNA evidence.

The Research Like a Pro eCourse is an independent study course that you complete on your own time and schedule, during the access period of twelve months.

How can I become a peer group leader for the RLP study group?

If you are interested in leading a small group of genealogists in either the traditional RLP study group or the RLP with DNA study group, we suggest that you first participate in the RLP study group or e-Course. This will give you a solid foundation for the RLP process. It would be best if you also worked through additional projects on your own using the process. To apply, go here: RLP Peer Group Leaders.

Can I become an intern for Family Locket Genealogists?

We welcome working with aspiring professional genealogists! To prepare for an internship, you will need to be a graduate of our study group or eCourse. You should also have experience in a variety of record types, especially the records of your research specialties.

Can Family Locket Genealogists help with my DNA research?

We offer a variety of services to help you use your DNA results to make progress in your research. Our e-Course, Research Like a Pro with DNA, will lead you through a project of your own.
