Designed for genealogists who want to identify every repository and find every record, SEARCH teaches the online and offline techniques behind reasonably exhaustive research, the foundation of the Genealogical Proof Standard. Across two parallel tracks, participants learn search and browse strategies for major platforms and lesser-known collections, use AI for discovery, and plan productive research at archives, courthouses, societies, and other repositories, whether they visit in person or request records from afar. Hands-on exercises are built around a research subject and locale of each student’s choosing, guided by course coordinator Jan Joyce with instructors Kristin Britanik and Kelley Conner Lear. Class meets weekly for seven weeks on Tuesdays starting February 23, 2027, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. MT. Questions? Reach out to Jan Joyce here.
