BeFunky.com is a photo editing website you can use to create coloring pages out of old family photos. The web tool is free for general photo editing but the “sketcher” filters which you apply to make coloring pages, are available in the plus version only. BeFunky Plus costs $4.95 per month or less if you pay annually. The BeFunky Mobile app, however, is free!
BeFunky Website
Go to BeFunky.com and click on the photo editor. Add your photo then select the “artsy” category on the left toolbar.
In the example below, I used the sketcher 2 filter. The photo I used is low quality, but you can still make out his army uniform.
This works better with a higher quality photo. For example, here is a coloring page I created of my 3rd great grandmother, Sarah Jane Miller. The original photo had more detail and higher quality contrast.
Here’s one more. I created this coloring page of my great grandfather at his ranch in Idaho. The original photo, below, has a lot of detail and good contrast/lighting. After applying the “sketcher 2” filter, you can adjust the opacity, clutter, and detail with the sliders on the left. You can also change the line and background colors.
BeFunky Mobile App
With the BeFunky mobile app, you can create coloring pages free of charge! It’s easy to use photos on your phone and quickly create coloring pages with them. Choose photo editor > effects > sketch. The sketch effect is all the way to the right so scroll all the way through the other effects.
Use the slider bar at the bottom to choose how much to apply the “sketch” affect. The further to the right you slide it the more color will be removed. Then you can save your coloring page, print it from your phone, email it to yourself or a host of other methods of sharing.
You can also add stickers, text, overlays, frames, text bubbles, and other goodies.
