Family History Music with Janice Kapp Perry at BYU Education Week

Janice Kapp Perry and her son and daughter, Steven Kapp Perry, and Lynne Perry Christofferson, shared their temple and family history music at BYU Education Week on Wednesday. It was a spirit-filled hour with experiences about temple work and uplifting lyrics sung by the talented Dallyn Vail Bayles and Tammy Simister Robinson.

Many of the songs performed can be found on the Perry family’s album entitled “As Temples fill the Earth.”

One of my favorite parts of the session was when Janice Kapp Perry led us all in singing “There is Love in My Family Tree,” which was published in the Friend magazine last year. This is a simple and sweet song for children about the love they feel for those who came before them and those who will come after them in the generations of their family tree.

Another special moment was the performance of The Power of Heaven, written by Steven Kapp Perry, performed by Tammy Simister Robinson. This song is about finding strength beyond our own as we stand on holy ground of the temple.

Janice Kapp Perry is such a well known name in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has written so many of the beloved primary songs that I learned as a child. One favorite is “I Love to See the Temple.” Dallyn Vail Bayles and Tammy Simister Robinson performed a duet performance of “I Love to See the Temple” and “Teach a Child.” It was a beautiful arrangement with a familiar song.

Janice Kapp Perry also spoke about family history work. She said that she promised her mother, who was a devoted family history researcher, to continue the family history research after her death. She has kept this promise by paying a researcher and faithfully completing all the temple work for the names that are found.
