I am a professional genealogist and genealogical writer who subscribed to the GPC library. Hoping it would give me access to digital copies of the books that I could then reference in my work, I was extremely disappointed. What it gave me was access to long, scrolling webpages that were not broken apart by page, had no reference to the page numbers found in the printed physical copies, and were formatted much differently than the original books. This meant the only way to cite the books was to direct my readers to subscribe themselves to GPC, go to a certain “book” file, and keyword search. In my opinion, this was a much more convoluted citation than just directing them to their a print copy at their local library and citing a volume and page, or directly them to digital copies found on Ancestry, AmericanAncestors, or FamilySearch (which they were much more likely to already have access to). When I reached out within 10 minutes of subscribing and asked for a refund because what the website offers is not what was expected, I was met with extreme resistance from Barry Chodak. I had to threaten to dispute the subscription fee with my bank before he agreed to cancel my subscription. Although this is a great deal for the average genealogist, I would not recommend this eLibrary for the genealogist that is hoping to craft citations to the “books” in it.
